"Trends in Cell Phone Displays - Forecasting the Future through Product Teardowns"
Jeff Brown
Portelligent - A TechInsights Company
(VIDEO CONFERENCED from Austin, Texas)
Event co-sponsored by the Texas Chapter of the SID
Abstract:
Using Portelligent's Product Profile Database, built from 300 product teardowns of cellular handsets conducted over the last five years, the evolution of displays in cell phones since 2004 will be covered. Trends in display size, resolution, pixel density, and technology will be used to paint a future picture of where displays are going in low-cost handsets, high-end feature phones, and ultra-high-segment smartphones. The impact of these trends on the overall system bill-of-materials and on how new functionality in these different classes of cell phones is being provided through advancements in displays will be demonstrated. The latest generation displays will be examined in more detail to expose how new display technologies will impact future-generation cell phones.
